Introduction to China's economy

China's economy has grown increasingly faster since the 1978 introduction of economic reforms. The Chinese official statistics show that (GDP) from 1979 to 1999 was growing at an average annual rate of 9.7 percent, making China one the world's fastest growing economies. According to the World Bank, China's rapid development has raised nearly 200 million people out of extreme poverty. That is why Singapore should not be complacent as many other countries are improving their economy rapidly.

Economy aging population

Its purpose was to control the population growth in China and it was enforced in 1979. However, this method did not have a good impact on the population, as this made the population size decrease overtime.

I think that it is more favourable to have two children in the family. This is because that having two children would have a higher income in the family as there would be two children to support the family in the future.

How would China solve this?

Does being rich mean being happy?

I do not think being rich means being happy. Although money may keep you satusfied with materi things, many things cannot be bought with money, like friends and family. If you are in bad terms with your family or have no friends, it is impossible to solve that with money. One of the main ways to be happy is to be satisfied with what you have so even if you are rich, you will not be happy until you are satisfied with what you have and not want more. By appreciating the things that we have, we will definitely have a greater sense of satisfaction, leading to a happier life.

Chingay Reflection

The theme this year for Chingay is "Lights of legacy, Bighter Singapore". Personally, I think this theme represents the wishes for the next generation of Singaporeans to carry on the legacy of our late Founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew and lead Singapore to an even brighter future.

The first formal Chingay parade in Singapore was mooted by the then-Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew who was also the chairman of the People's Association (PA). Chingay was supposed to compensate for the ban of firecrackers which is a customary New Year practice to drive evil spirits away. For its first street performance on 4 February 1973, only aspects of the Chinese culture were displayed. However, in 1976, Chingay became more multicultural.

I think the performers for Chingay 2016 worked hard in trying to convey the message to us and I think that they were successful. I am very thankful to be able to experience such a spectacular performance.

Reflections for RV60

RV60 was on 16th of January this year. I was not part of the performance in RV60 as although I practised the RV60 song as part of string ensemble, there was not enough instruments so I was added last minute to the backstage helpers.

Although I was not one of the performers, a lot of effort was put into RV60. The job of the backstage helpers was mainly to set the goodie bags on the seats and to point the directions to the standing area.
The whole school worked hard together to make RV60 a great performance. I learnt teamwork and unity from the performance.

Self Introduction

Hello Mr Wong, my name is Li Ke Xin. I a currently in Year 2 of River Valley High School. I am in group 4 of class 2D. My CCA is String Ensemble where I play the cello. My hobby is reading. I do not have a favourite colour or animal or anything in general so my personality probably is not complicated enough to fill up 200 words. My best subject is Mathematics while my worst is Chinese. I hate P.E. lessons the most of all the lessons. I look forward to OELP as I can learn and experience the culture of another country. Now there is more about myself that I do not wish to mention but under circumstances... Many of my friends agree that I'm really quiet but when I talk, it's really loud. So sometimes, I admit that I may be a disturbance. Also, people agree that I have ironic and sarcastic comebacks. Although some may be hurtful, but it would always bring a big smile onto their face, like Carmen.
