Shao Hong

Self introduction

Hi there, my name is Shao Hong and I am from 2D CID Group 4. The hobbies that I like to do is to sleep and collecting different kind of stamps. You might find it surprising that one of my hobbies is to sleep. To me, sleeping is not only just resting, it is also a way for me to relieve stress. It could be dreaming about happy moments, or getting scary nightmares, but at the end it would usually be a beautiful rainbow.

Collecting stamps could be quite hard and it is a long-term hobby. Hence, the things that I do, other than doing homework, is to watch videos from YouTube or play games during my free time. The videos that I watched recently is anime and interesting videos.

The colours that I like is light purple, and the combination is yellow and black. This is because it gives out a striking effect for the combination.

I do not really exercise that much on my own, but I like to swim and cycle. When you cycle, there would be a wind forming up against you and it would be quite relaxing. However, when I am cycling up the slope, it would be quite hard and it needs a lot of effort to get up.

I look forward to this year CID programme and especially The OELP trip. Hope you have enjoyed reading my Introduction. Thank You.

Extra In the Ordinary
This pictures shows leaves in a certain place.
At first glance, you would think that this not a spectacular leaf, but it produces oxygen for respiration of living things.
Hence, plants are important towards the survival of living things and we should take care of plants.

Reflection on RV 60

This RV60 anniversary marks the 60 years of the school's history and I am proud of my school. Being a performer in this huge celebration is a sense of pride because I did something together as a school. I what I did is to perform with an orange flag in the 40 of us in the Wushu category. I though that this was much of a pretty fun thing to do, but I was also afraid of not knowing how to do it as it is new to me. Practising for this performance is tough, especially after a long break without exercising, I got muscle aches while running for the first few training. It got better over a few days and I began to run normally again.

I think that this performance is definitely worthwhile because we get to celebrate our school 60 anniversary together as doing a part in the celebration for our alumni and other people. Hence, this celebration is important and it is to thank to those that have build what is today.

Poverty- Rich means Happy?
The Happy Planet Index (HPI) in our country is 39.8.
I think that although some people are rich, they may not be happy.
It might be because of some other factors that could affect the happiness of our country. The housing and the natural environment of where we live might affect our happiness, and the way of life in Singapore also does affect the happiness among residents.

Chingay Reflections 2016
The theme of this year's Chingay Parade is "Lights of Legacy, Brighter Singapore", which 2016 marks the first year of Singapore's next 50 years. The purpose of this Chingay Parade 2016 is to celebrate our first step towards SG100, coming from different backgrounds to celebrate values that have brought Singapore from a fishing village into a modern metropolis. Hence, we must unite the values in us and bring us forward to the future SG100 with determination.

The meaning of this theme, "Lights of Legacy, Brighter Singapore", is inspired by the legacy of our Founding Prime Minister , Mr Lee Kuan Yew, and the values embodied by our Pioneers such as Racial Harmony, a Can-do Singapore spirit and many other moral values.

The history of Chingay was when the first formal Chingay parade in Singapore was mooted by the then-Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, who was also the chairman of the People Association (PA). Initially, there was firecrackers, a customary New Year practice to drive away evil spirits, but Chingay, with all its noise and music, would compensate for the ban of firecrackers. Its first street parade was held on 4 February 1973, the PA teamed up with the Singapore National Pugilistic Federation for a grand show in the Year of the Ox, depicting aspects of Chinese culture, with dragon and lion dances, martial arts and street opera. Soon, the Chingay Parade was very well received that the PA made it an annual festival and it took on a multicultural flavour from 1976. It is now a national festival, celebrated by the Chinese, Malays, Indians and many other people from different backgrounds. Together with the beautifully decorated vehicles, the performers perform as a street parade.

I think that the organisers of Chingay 2016 have successfully fulfilled this purpose, because the performance was fully organised, with colourful, beautifully decorated vehicles. There was even a floating platform for performance to perform in the air. I think that the finale was the best because it have many bulb-like balloons with comments on it and it would glow very brightly. There is also a big bulb shaped vehicle with a heading, "Lights of Legacy, Brighter Singapore". This whole finale reflects on the whole purpose of this Chingay 2016 and hence the organisers have successfully fulfilled the purpose of Chingay 2016.

In conclusion, I felt very contented after the whole parade and I hope I could be a volunteer next time or to be an audience watching the parade again in the future. Thank You.

Economy -Aging Population
Policies are made with short term goals but may have long term implications. For example, child control measures were implemented for both China and Singapore. However, the child control measures were reversed. The 3 things I found out was that Singapore's Two Child Policy was implemented on 1972. It was then reversed on 1973. The new ruling was to have reduction of income tax relief to cover only the first three children.
The two perceptions that I gained was that by reversing the policy in Singapore, there would be lower priority in the choice of and admission to schools, and more basic needs will needed to support more children. On the other hand, there would be more children to support their parents when they grow older and more young people to work, leading to economy growth.

Introduction to China's Economy
Singapore must not be complacent in her achievements. Although we come in first place for some achievements, we must not be complacent. It is because many other countries have a fast growing economy. For example, China rank second in the world in terms of total GDP.
If we are complacent, we do not continue to work hard for our country, we might just remain at the same level we are at now. Due to the limited land spaces and the limited resources we have, we must strive even harder to build a better Singapore in the years to come.
